In one of the most chilling public statements ever made by a U.S. Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales questioned whether the U.S. Constitution grants habeas corpus rights of a fair trial to every American.

I saw that, and the term "Chilling" was most apt. That man is supposedly in the highest law enforcement position in the land, and he's sitting there, straight-faced, and saying that the Constitution does *NOT* guarantee habeas corpus????? I literally was speechless. I couldn't believe he actually made that argument.
It's just further proof of what I've been saying all along: The Bush administration has no regard for the constitutionality of ANY of its positions. They are interested in one thing, and one thing only: Power. Unfortunately, they have had an extremely tame congress which abrogated its responsibilities towards checking that power, and we're going to pay for it for a long time. But ye gods, I don't think there's a rational person alive that isn't blinded by ideological factors that would accept that man's argument, and thus sweepingly deny habeus Corpus to the american public... Was glad to see Specter, a republican, just as flabbergasted as I was.

No one in this thread was really arguing anything.

Yeah not seeing any arguing. I think this is actually one of the only threads where we can all agree on.
Yea that does have a habit of happening from time to time.
