In some ways his policies have inconvenienced me, but in general, he's been a complete abject failure at best, and at worst, actually perpetuated what he supposedly opposes with his bumbling methods.
He's literally the greatest thing that's ever happened to the firearms industry. All talk, no cattle. But enough talk to rile up every fence sitter in the nation and galvanize them against legislation in the future. Where he could act of his own accord without violating the constitution, he's tried, and even that has been rather inept. Annoying, but meaningless. Rule changes through the ATF, etc.
No, on that front, I've really got no complaint. Gun rights, sales, participation in firearms groups and training programs, competitions, etc, has grown faster under Obama's watchful eye than the national debt.

Also, universal background checks, as well as keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill or those suspected of working with terrorists has an 80%+ approval level in both the GOP and the Democrats. Why is this a problem to get done? Why should anyone protest about making sure that bad people can't actually buy firearms, and only good people can?

Well, considering I agree with the "reprehensible social issue viewpoints", I don't agree even a tiny little bit with you calling them out as a negative.
Failed economic policies? Have you looked at the economy now compared to when Obama took office? It is, by almost every single measure, better than even McCain was promising he could achieve during the 2008 campaign. Yes, there is still more work to do. But perhaps if the GOP had not simply been the party of "no" for 8 years that got hijacked by the fanatical far right, we might have been able to make more progress.
And no, I don't think either Obama or Hillary are chomping at the bit to take guns away. I think those are paranoid fantasies with absolutely no basis in reality whatsoever. And for the record, I absolutely support a 10 round magazine limit, if we're talking about CA restrictions. There is no valid reason whatsoever for a civilian to need a magazine larger than that, just like there's no civilian need for automatic weapons or a bazooka. So, no, I don't "know it" at all.
